| Permit Only Good for 180 Days! |
|
If you submit an application to a building department and it has not been approved within 180 days from the time of submittal, you could lose your application fees.
Chapter one in all three model building codes calls for voiding of the permit application after 180 days. It also allows for forfeiture of the application fees and in some cases requires a resubmittal of new documents and payment of a new review fee. The codes do allow for a one time extension of 90-180 days. One large jurisdiction, though, automatically voids the application in its computer process without sending notification to the applicant. You have to stay on top of things in this jurisdiction. Sadly, many jurisdictions do not even begin to do a serious review on some of the submitted projects until after 90-120 days. |
