Knowing the Local Process Is Important
There are over 28,000 permitting jurisdictions in the United States and just about as many sets of requirements for what is needed to submit a building permit application.

Remember when you are getting ready to go stand in line for a couple hours waiting to submit a permit application, make sure you have all the submittal requirements with you.

Many jurisdictions require a written affidavit from the owner which gives you, the agent, or the contractor the right to commit the owners property to the legal ramifications of a building permit application. Without this piece of paper you might get sent packing

You might need financial guarantees to go with your other submittals, too, so make sure to ask your local building and or planning department staff about bonds and guarantees.
