Deferred Submittals Not Automatic!
It is common practice for many designers and contractors to assume that if they can just get part of the requirements submitted to the local jurisdiction for a building permit it will put them in line to get an earlier building permit approval. Nothing could be further from the truth in many jurisdictions across the United States. A lot of jurisdictions will not even accept your submittal for a building permit unless you have each and every document in the package.

Many jurisdictions require that a letter be submitted asking approval from the building official to defer some of the drawings. These are usually documents such as fire protection drawings.

Usually, you must provide the building official with a good reason why you are requesting the deferral of the drawings.

So be careful of the assumptions you make. Check with Permit Place or your local jurisdiction and stay informed.
