When choosing a contractor make sure to get references by talking to friends or colleagues that have had work done. Your local building inspector will sometimes give you the names of builders that do good work.

Many states require contractors to be licensed. Check at our City Links page to finds which states require licensing.

Check with local plumbers and other subcontractors to find reputable builders. They will almost always recommend contractors that are paying their bills on a regular basis. These excellent sources will let you know if you are dealing with a reliable contractor. They know the contractors that are having problems.
