| Attitude and the Permitting Process |
|
Throughout all 28,000 jurisdictions in the United States, probably the single most important thing to help you get through the permitting process is the right attitude and a respectful manner.
Remember, your project only seems to you like the most important thing that the permit technician has to do that day. Be courteous when you are asking questions and do not become adversarial. Permit technicians are there to help you, but you need to be aware that every single piece of property is unique, nothing is ever as it seems to be and people generally do not give the technicians enough information. Help them out by providing pictures, tax parcel numbers and good addresses. Lots of mistakes were placed in the existing records and there are inconsistencies between what should be and what is. Remember everyone deserves to be treated with respect. Do not get angry or frustrated. If you tend to do that then allow someone else to do the permit process for you. |
